China Mobile to Launch LTE Services on 18th December

China Mobile will launch its 4G service on the 18th December with a new brand He, meaning harmonious in the Chinese language.

China’s government is expected to formally issue the 4G licenses before the network launches its service, although that is still not confirmed.

“It will be a national event and users are allowed to apply for 4G services without changing numbers,” a Shanghai Mobile official told Xinhua. However, although described as a nation event, coverage will be initially limited to Beijing, Guangzhou and Chongqing, with Shanghai launching later.

China Mobile has placed orders for around 220,000 LTE base stations to expand its network though.
