China Mobile Planning to Offer More TD-LTE Based Smartphones

China Mobile plans to offer at least 11 new TD-LTE based mobile phones in the second half of this year as it ramps up its network expansion.

The announcement was made by China Mobile’s Chairman, Xi Guohua at a trade conference where a large number of handsets were shown off that are compatible with the company’s 4G network.

The worldwide shipment of TD-LTE devices are placed at over three million units.

Xi added that with more global chip manufacturers’ participation, the TD-LTE multi-mode multi-band smartphone technology will mature, and eventually lead to convergence with the more widespread FDD based LTE services.
