China Mobile picks ZTE for TD-LTE rollout
ZTE has been selected by China Mobile to deploy China’s home-grown 4G platform Time Division Long Term Evolution (TD-LTE) in five cities: Beijing, Tianjin, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Shenyang. The operator plans to install 4G networks in a total of 13 cities, with rollouts in the remaining eight cities – Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Xiamen, Qingdao, Ningbo, Chengdu and Fuzhou – to be handled by other vendors. ZTE claims to be the largest supplier for the cellco’s LTE projects.
China Mobile plans to install 20,000 4G-enabled base stations by the end of 2012, rising to 200,000 twelve months later.
