BRICS countries to cooperate in ICT sector

In order to benefit from the modern technologies countries around the world are collaborating g various fronts. Since ICT is at the forefront of all developments, countries are building coalitions for ICT sector growth. Recently, communication ministers of BRICS countries have also signed a letter of intent for joint cooperation in ICT sector.

BRICS countries to cooperate in ICT sector

These countries include Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The text of the declaration highlighted the role of technology in the socio-economic growth of the country and creating a digital economy. The countries decided to cooperator at ICT front to and improve public administration, increase the competitiveness and productivity of the private sector and socio-economic inclusion.

The areas on which they have decided to cooperate include digital connectivity and innovation, security in the digital economy, human resource development, digital transformation, inclusion and digital governance. The member countries signed agreement at the fifth meeting of BRICS communications minister that was held in Brasilia.
The member countries have established a separate branch to promote global cooperation on information and communication technology (ICT) by the name of BRICS Institute of Future Networks. The branch has been established in China’s tech hub Shenzhen.

The establishment of the BRICS Institute of Future Networks was approved last September at the fourth meeting of the BRICS communications ministers.
