Bakcell plans to roll out 4G this year

Azerbaijani mobile operator Bakcell ended 2012 with 2.6 million active subscribers (3 million registered subscribers), brining its share of the market to 35 percent, Trend reports. The company claims its share of the mobile internet market has risen to 40 percent.

The company further said that its network comprises more than 2,000 base stations covering more than 99 percent of the country’s population and 92 percent of the territory.

Bakcell’s head Richard Shearer said that the company is currently in talks with the ICT ministry on deploying 4G and the launch of mobile number portability services, which are expected to be launched this year.
