Alca-Lu bags contract for 3,000 4G base stations

Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell has been selected by China Mobile to deploy Time Division Long Term Evolution (TD-LTE) networks in three cities. Under the terms of the deal, Alca-Lu will deliver a total of around 3,000 base stations in Shanghai, Nanjing and Qingdao. The deal follows the signing of similar contract with Chinese vendor ZTE, which China Mobile selected to install TD-LTE networks in Beijing, Tianjin, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Shenyang.

The cellco is looking to install some 20,000 4G-enabled base stations by the end of 2012 increasing to 200,000 by 31 December 2013.
