AIS, DTAC and True all to bid for 3G spectrum in October

Thailand’s three major mobile operators – AIS, DTAC and True Corp – will be the only bidders to participate in the country’s 3G spectrum auction in October. Tantawan Telecommunications also submitted an application, but this was rejected by telecoms regulator the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) citing a lack of some required documents. The watchdog will hold a mock auction on 12 and 13 October and open the auction proper on 16 October. It will officially announce the names of winning bidders three days after the tender is completed. Nine 5MHz blocks of spectrum are to be auctioned, with each bidder allowed to bid for a maximum of three blocks.
