Aircel plans for 4G launch
Indian cellco Aircel will invest around USD500 million in rolling out 4G services before the end of the year, the Business Standard reports. The cellco will launch services in Chennai between October and December whilst expanding the network to other cities in the Tamil Nadu circle. In addition to wireless broadband for handsets and dongles, the provider plans to offer home broadband and related value added services (VAS) such as a video on demand (VoD) library. CEO of majority owner Maxis of Malysia and acting head of Aircel Sandip Das said the company’s focus was on ‘creating a big data business,’ adding that he expected to see the price of Long Term Evolution (LTE) compatible devices to fall.
