
Afghanistan issues 3 Wimax licences
according to ATRA Afghanistan Telecom Regulatory Authorties issued Wimax licences to Neda Telecom, to IO Global, and to Arianna Network Service for USD 520,000 each.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister of information Technology Eng. Amirzai Sangin called the move another step toward improving internet services in Afghanistan.
After assessing the telecommunication market to expand internet services, the ministry decided to grant Wimax technology licences through a transparent bidding process, he added “Sangin hoped the move would lead to a more competitive environment in the telecommunication sector and help provide high quality internet services at affordable rates”.
According to the minister, 80 percent of Afghanistan’s population will have access to Wimax and 3G technologies over the next two years.
