3G/4G Optimization/Planning Engineer

 

Job Function:

This engineering position requires the ability to work closely with wireless operators on all aspects associated with the design, analysis and optimization of UMTS/HSPA/LTE networks. The successful candidate should have the ability to understand technical issues related to UMTS/HSPA/LTE technologies, including 3GPP & 3GPP2 and have RF & NW optimization skills. The candidate should be able to provide onsite support to mobile operators worldwide to help roll out and enhance their UMTS networks. Position requires significant customer interaction and ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams.40% Travel Required.

Skills & Experience:

  • Excellent understanding of 3GPP (UMTS/HSPA/LTE) technologies and hands-on experience from deployed networks. A strong familiarity and understanding of 3GPP/3GPP2 wireless standard is required
  • Understanding of the GSM/UMTS/LTE protocol stack and call flows is required
  • Proven track record with innovative problem solving and hands-on experience with UMTS/LTE network design, network troubleshooting, fine-tuning, and optimization is required
  • Hands on experience with logging tools such as TEMS, QxDM Pro, etc.
  • Hands-on experience with tools (e.g. Wireshark) for IP protocol suites data logging/analysis and troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of GSM/GPRS/EDGE is preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills are required.

Responsibilities:

  • Interact with wireless Operators to investigate and characterize the performance of CDMA/UMTS/LTE networks in various aspects ranging from air interface, to devices and applications
  • Ability to develop and deliver project reports to different operators
  • Ability to develop and evaluate RFP for 3GPP UMTS/HSPA/LTE radio networks deployment
  • Capability of Performance and Functionality testing of various devices on different networks.
  • Use handset and network infrastructure based advanced tools to accurately measure existing and potential network performance issues
  • Use in-house simulation platforms with live network traffic data and develop solutions to improve network performance & efficiency
  • RF and OTA Parametric Optimization and troubleshooting involving the use of various complex data collection and post-processing tools to assess UMTS network performance and propose solutions to problems
  • Ability to present complex technical ideas and results to multi-level, multi-disciplinary internal and external audience

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in Electrical/Telecom Engineering. MS preferred
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience in cellular radio networks.
