2K Telecom to launch LTE at beginning of 2014

2K Telecom, one of the five bidders in Romania’s recently closed 4G/LTE spectrum auction, plans to launch mobile internet services using 4G/LTE technology that enable data transfer speeds up to 100 Mbps starting in 2014 or a little earlier if it obtains the approval of the regulatory authority Ancom.

The operator has already developed a WiMax network which fully covers the city of Ploiesti, located close to the capital Bucharest. By end-2012, the company plans to cover more than 95 percent of Bucharest with WiMax following investments of EUR 12 million. The operator is offering services in Ploiesti under the brand Idilis. It reached about 200 customers in Ploiesti since the launch of WiMax services two months ago. The operator offers a USB stick and a modem which connects to the WiMax and generates a hotspot around its location, enabling multiple devices to connect to the web.
