Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has extended the coverage of its CDMA-based wireless broadband service, which it offers under the ‘EVO Wireless Broadband’ banner.

According to the Daily Times, PTCL now offers the service, which provides average downlink speeds of between 300kbps and 500kbps, in 100 major cities and towns across the country.

Cities where the operator has boosted its wireless broadband footprint include: Karachi, Lahor, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta, Hyderabad, Chakwal, Gujranwala, Muzzafarabad, Rawalakot, Mirpur, Okara, Sargodha, Sialkot, Multan and Faisalabad. Commenting on the development, Naveed Saeed, senior executive vice president of PTCL Commercial, said that the expansion reflected his company’s commitment to providing the best telecoms services to PTCL customers.
According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, PTCL announced the soft-launch of wireless broadband services over its CDMA network in January 2009, with the service only initially available in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Mirpur. It was more than a year later when, in February 2010, the operator announced a full commercial launch.
